Course Description

Our Chinese Program: A Systematic Pathway to Fluency and Cultural Heritage

We understand that your goal for your child’s Chinese education goes beyond mastering a language; it’s about building a deep and meaningful connection to Chinese culture. With this in mind, we have designed an authoritative, systematic, and coherent learning program for you and your child.

Authoritative Curriculum: The “Zhongwen” Series by Jinan University

Our program fully adopts the globally renowned “Zhongwen” (《中文》) textbook series by Jinan University, with a curriculum covering all 12 volumes, providing a clear and reliable long-term learning path for students.

A key feature of this series is its comprehensive companion exercises. Each main textbook is paired with two workbooks (A and B), with content closely aligned to what is taught in class. This ensures that students have ample, high-quality homework to reinforce their learning, allowing them to effectively digest new information and internalize classroom knowledge into solid skills.

Program Pace & Stage-Specific Goals

Our teaching schedule is scientifically designed based on children’s cognitive development to ensure that learning at every stage is effective and rewarding.

Kindergarten: The Chinese Enlightenment Stage

  • Core Focus: Cultivating interest and mastering foundational phonics.

  • Learning Content:

    • Hanyu Pinyin: Through fun songs, games, and flashcards, students will systematically learn all initials, finals, and the four tones of Pinyin, building a solid foundation for character recognition and standard Mandarin pronunciation.

    • Basic Character Recognition: Students will learn to recognize and write the most common, foundational Chinese characters (e.g., 人, 口, 手, 一, 二, 三) and master the basic strokes of character writing.

  • Learning Goal: By the end of the school year, children will be able to fluently recognize and sound out all Pinyin, master approximately 50 basic characters, and develop a strong interest in learning Chinese.

Grades 1-6: The Systematic Advancement Stage

    • Core Focus: Systematic literacy training and comprehensive skill development.

    • Pacing: Starting from Grade 1, students will formally begin their studies using the main “Zhongwen” textbooks. We adopt a steady pace of completing two volumes per academic year (one volume in the first semester, one in the second).

      • Grade 1 will focus on reinforcing Hanyu Pinyin as an effective tool for learning characters while studying Volumes 1 and 2 of “Zhongwen”. Students will begin systematic text-based learning, basic picture-description exercises, and sentence-building practice.

      • Grades 2 through 6 will continue to advance steadily through the textbook series, mastering each volume until all twelve are completed.

    • Learning Goal: Upon completing six years of systematic study, students will have mastered over 2,500 Chinese characters, developed the ability to independently read children’s literature and simple newspaper articles, and be able to write well-structured narrative essays. Their overall language proficiency will be comparable to that of an upper-elementary student in China, laying a rock-solid foundation for advanced studies or the AP Chinese exam.
